Twitter users in Pakistan:Tweet via SMS to a local number

Twitter is a well known name to almost every blogger. It provides a convenient and concise way to announce to the world what you are doing as well as get updates on what others are doing. Along with other modes, you can update your status by sending an SMS to Twitter. This way, you can broadcast yourself on the go and from any cell phone (even the pre-historic ones :) )

However, Twitter uses an international (UK) based number. In Pakistan, local SMS is dirt cheap but international SMS rates are much higher (~2-5 PKR). So, using Twitter via SMS has not been very popular. Consistent micro-bloggers have learnt to get around this by installing GPRS based application on their cell phones and continue ‘tweeting’.

Pakistan users: Tweet via SMS to a local number

Wouldn’t it be great if you could update your status via SMS yet be charged for just a local SMS? This way, you could tweet anything you want, whenever you want, with zero-install and from any cell phone.

Our aim at iSMS is to make SMS communication fun and easy in Pakistan. An integration with Twitter is perfectly aligned with this objective. The integration is now complete and is now available to the users.

Integrating your Twitter account with iSMS is easy and here is how you do it,

  1. Create an account at iSMS

  2. Register your cell phone with iSMS. You will get a verification code on your cell phone from a local number, save the number and enter the code on web site

  3. Integrate your Twitter account with your iSMS account by entering your Twitter account credentials

After Step 3, you will be able to update your Twitter status by sending an SMS to the iSMS number that you saved in Step 2 as,

tweet <your status in 140 characters>

And guess what, it only costs a local SMS :)

Now you can tweet whether you have a 3310, in a rally in kala-shah-kakoo, have no GPRS, in a convention, in a workshop or a protest. Always stay connected to your friends at Twitter in a cost effective method.

Since, iSMS is currently in private beta, you can request for an account or drop me an email at m.adilsaleem[at]gmail.com.

Happy tweeting ;)
